Dark Island 05:44
I thought I saw a sail coming back to this dark island. Who came to set hand against hand and eye against eye? Who set the knife in the blood to cut us free from every tie? The river banks where we used to play look so strange in the sun. You don’t know what you have given away or what tide is to come. Grass grows high in the orchards and fields, fever bubbles in the bone. Trade and harvest are forgotten today, the minotaur steps to the throne.
2.
We are children of birds, why shouldn’t we fly, you and I across the ocean of light. Through a thousand springs we’ll spread our wings, till we’re called by name out of the dirt and pain. We are children of light why shouldn’t we sing, whatever weather may bring. In the darkest clouds, we are reborn. Our feathers tattered and torn, will bring us out of the storm. We are children of kings why should we fear, whatever evil is near. You can burn our cities to the ground, pull our houses down, no victory will be found.
3.
O my child, what will you be? O my child, can you follow me? You will learn that wine is a road that leads to a deep pool where you can swim and you can learn to talk to a mountain. O my child, don’t be afraid. Whatever they say, don’t be afraid. You will learn that you are one whose name is writ in water in the hot sun while the shadows swing round to the evening.
